2012 Mazda RX-8 Spirit R Special Edition
Mazda has announced a special edition of the 2012 Mazda RX-8 Spirit R Special Edition for the Japanese domestic market (JDM). 2012 Mazda RX-8 Special Edition Spirit R is based on the RX-8 Type RS (with six-speed manual transmission) and Type E (with six-speed automatic gearbox). Distinguishing models will be features like seat design and exclusive alloy wheels bronze.
Special equipment includes sport suspension and larger brakes (with red calipers), new headlights and fog lights with black frame rear combination lamps, an exclusive badge SPIRIT R, the transmission tunnel piano black trim, and leather Recaro sport seats with red stitching. 2012 Mazda RX-8 Spirit R Special Edition will be limited to a production run of 1,000 units with production ending in June 2012. However, promising the end of the Mazda RX-8 does not mean the end of rotary engine development. Takashi Yamanouchi, Mazda’s Representative Director, Chairman of the Board, President and CEO, said, “Although the RX-8 production ended, the rotary engine will always represent the spirit of Mazda and Mazda remains committed to ongoing development.”
